WOW! South City Bulletin magazine featured my wellness article Recharge Yourself in their December Christmas issue!  Editor Wendy Millgate requested I write an article to recharge Christmas shoppers and revelers alike.

Here’s a snapshot of my Recharge Yourself article…

“Are you frantically rushing round preparing for Christmas? Frazzled by Christmas shopping, long queues, traffic jams and impossible parking?  While feverishly attending festive celebrations and organizing your own? Sound familiar?

We strive to be Super mums and dads and Super achievers trying to deliver a perfect Christmas.  Think again. Stop pressuring yourself! Christmas is a time for peace and relaxation, and most importantly a time to nurture yourself. You’ll enjoy Christmas a whole lot more if you can relax and recharge yourself.

For those managing a mental illness like myself, with a pro-active wellness plan, Christmas can trigger stress, depression and anxiety with strong feelings of loneliness and isolation. I’m bolstering myself with a toolbox of pro-active wellness strategies to fight stress and feelings of being overwhelmed.”

How to Recharge Yourself over Christmas

1.    Step away. Recharge and reset. Nurture yourself with a little Me time. Relax in a warm scented bath with candles and essential oils. Indulge in a soothing, relaxing massage, restoring not only your weary body, but your over-stimulated mind, and your soul.

2.    Don’t over commit to too many events. Learn to say NO. Delegate to others in your family or workplace. Request for help.

3.    Infuse laughter and music into your Christmas festivities. A great stress reliever. Laugh out loud. Smile a lot. Fake it until you make it. Tell silly jokes. Do a merry little dance with someone you love.

4.    Exercise. The greatest stress reliever of all. Start each day with a brisk walk. Relax with stretches and yoga. Swim in cool refreshing water. Exercise lifts your mood for the whole day

5.    Enjoy simple Christmas pleasures with your friends and family. Sing Christmas carols together. Make your own personal Christmas decorations: they’re much cheaper. Delight in your neighbourhood Christmas lights.

6.    Unplug your TV, computer and phone. Go outside and commune with nature. Take a bush walk. Feed the birds. Chill out in a natural environment. Enjoy watching glorious sunsets and rolling clouds across the sky.

  • Hi Steve,
YEP! Thanks for the reminder. Trying to keep my cool this Christmas.
    1. I’m not going to all events and celebrations this year. I’m being super selective.
    2. I’m pacing myself with Christmas shopping. I start next week with careful planning and a shopping list.
    3. Planing Lots of ME time and relaxation throughout … Karen x
