Running Leap

I’m teetering on the precipice of Publishing, toes jutting over the edge. I gaze down at the deep abyss of failure and defeat. And stare over to the other side … the Mystical Land of Publishing.

All I need is a running leap.

My heart is pounding with exhilaration and uncertainty. I battle with the sharp pangs of self-doubt and frustration. Will I make it? … Can I grab hold of something substantial?

Last Friday I sent my newly-revamped first 50 pages of my Crime novel Sayonara to the QWC/Hachette Manuscript Program. They’ll notify me by the end of August if I make their Long List. Fingers crossed. xx

This week I’m back with my Kids Sci-Fi, Josh and the It. My rewrites almost finished, save for daily tweaking and fine-tuning.

At the moment I’m developing a knock-em-dead Book Proposal. Content includes my credentials, a synopsis, a chapter outline and a VIP Marketing Section. Thank you QWC for publishing an article on “Make yours a Decent Proposal” on page 14 of last week’s WQ Mag. Soon I’ll be sending a Query Letter to a Children’s Publisher, requesting permission to post my Book Proposal and manuscript to them  … Please, please say YES.

I’m not rushing now, no reckless Icarus flights for me. My next step will be a calculated measure of wind velocity and speed. My folded wings are ready to spread out and soar over the gorge into the land of my dreams.
If I sprint fast enough, can I lunge over the Chasm of Defeat and fly into the Land of Hope?
A land where writers co-sign Book Contracts. Where they bask in the sunshine of success and fulfilled dreams.

That’s all I want.

  • Hi, Karen. Good to see that you’re thoroughly organised, as usual. Good luck with Hatchette for ‘Sayonara’. Glad you’re on to the final tweaks with ‘Josh and the It’. Your proposal and query letter are ready to go. You’re organised with your work towards your public appearances with the RADF stand, at schools, libraries, and with your other work with the Logan Writers Group, Women Writers Group, and the Crime Writers Group, etc, in Brisbane. Can’t remember their proper names. Oh, and then there’s all the online excerpts and work with Beyond Blue, and organisations concerned with bi-polar disorder, etc. You can’t do much more than that. Glad you’re totally powered up and prepared, Karen. You’ll make the ‘leap’ for sure. I’m exhausted just reading about everything you do. You’re sure to have at least one or more of your books on bookshop shelves in a year or two (once they pass through the lit agents and publisher’s doors of acceptance shortly). You’re made for rhia writing game. Keep well and thanks for your two recent emails. Bye for now, Joanna :))

  • Thanks so much Joanna for your support over the last year or so. I really appreciate you being there to cheer me on. When I make the Leap to Publishing, I’ll have you to thank. If there’s anything I can do to help, please let me know. Karen :))
