ME & HER story Published in HER Magazine

HER Canberra online magazine published a feature story on why I, author Karen Tyrrell wrote her gutsy memoir, ME & HER: a Memoir of Madness.

HER Canberra divulged the trauma I experienced as a primary school teacher when parents at my school harassed and terrorized me to breaking point and beyond.

Belladonna Took, HER Canberra journalist focussed on the plight of teachers who at the mercy of abusive parents.

HER Canberra magazine, with a daily reach of ten thousand readers, reviewed my expose memoir, ME & HER: a Memoir of Madness. HER Canberra is a website for women, featuring the voices of local writers, talking about everything from fashion to food; BOOKS to bars; children and career. ‘If it’s part of ‘HER’ life you’ll find it on HER Canberra.’

Belladonna, from HER Canberra requested an interview …

On the events behind my demise, leading to my incarceration in a psyche hospital …

‘Allie’s parents swept into her classroom like a maelstrom, dishing out spoken, written and psychological abuse on a daily basis. Karen details the parents’ harassment of her in her book, Me & HER: A Memoir of Madness. …But the parents’ “campaign of terror” didn’t stop there.’

‘They invented new ways to torture me. Allie started delivering abusive and threatening notes with her parents’ demands.

‘Or they left scribbled threats inside her homework book…It intensified with them complaining to the principal and to the Education Department Office…Each day they whinged to the school office threatening legal action.’(pg 7).

Later Belladonna reviewed ME & HER: a Memoir Of Madness

‘Karen published her long-awaited book, ME & HER: A Memoir of Madness in May this year. Through sharing her story, Karen hopes to provide “a deeper understanding of mental illness and how we’re all vulnerable.  That mental illness presents like any other illness, having symptoms, diagnosis, treatment … and most importantly, recovery.”

Karen Tyrrell has turned a very bleak situation into a hopeful and inspirational one. Her journey is certainly one that we can all relate to-because ultimately, ME & HER is a story of the human spirit triumphing over adversity.’

Families like that should be kicked out of school. What a ridiculously politically correct world we live in.
