What is the 2019 Premier’s Reading Challenge?

The Challenge encourages a love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students, and to enable them to experience quality literature.

It is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read MORE and to read MORE widely.

The 2019 challenge will open on March 4, 2019. PRC student reading records will need to be finalised by August 30, 2019 with coordinators having until September 13 to finalise all validations.

Who can participate in NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge? (PRC)

It’s available for all NSW students in Kindergarten to Year 9, in government, independent, Catholic and home schools.

Posters and support material for the 2019 Challenge are being mailed to schools and libraries, and should arrive by late February. You can also download and print the 2019 poster here.

How does the Premier’s Reading Challenge improve reading?

Dedicated teacher-librarians and teachers provide practical suggestions for coordinating the Challenge that may assist children in your school.

Getting reluctant readers started:

  • Classroom teachers/ teacher-librarians can introduce some of the PRC books in class lessons and units of work to give students a taste of success.
  • In pairs students can explore aspects of visual literacy in picture books and both students can include the book on their Student Reading Record.

What’s next?

MORE of Karen Tyrrell’s books could be added in the future.

Please stay tuned!

So proud of you girlfriend! About time your books are being recognised outside of Queensland. You deserve it, ALL your books are so meaningful and inspiring for children, love the sweet and powerful themes of hope and finding inner strength. Any child who reads your books are better for it, keep going!
