10 Steps to Happiness

Once, screaming night terrors, tormenting anxiety, and severe mental illness plagued my life.

I promised myself I would recover and turn my life around.

I wrote ME & HER: a Memoir of Madness, sharing my guide to recovery and my wellness tools. In the process, I forgave myself and found my happiness.

We all strive to be happier …

To live the life of our dreams. To be who we are meant to be. To live our life joyously, simply with purpose, with resolve that everything will be alright.
And most importantly we want to live in peace with ourselves.
How do we achieve that?

Sharing my #10 Steps to Happiness

1.    Walk briskly every day to diminish anxiety and depression. Helps you feel centred and calm.

2.    Give thanks every day for what you have. Live with gratitude and optimism.

3.    Keep a gratitude journal. Every day note three things for which you are thankful.

4.    Breathe slowly and deeply. Slow your response to stresses in your life.

5.    Rejoice, celebrate and congratulate yourself when good things happen.

6.    LIVE in the moment. Focus on your five senses. Move away from the things you can’t control, like guilt from the past and worries about the future.

7.    Engage in helpful behaviours and STOP the unhelpful ones. Make decisive goals.

8.    Accept bad things will happen. ALL experiences are positive to help you grow as a human being.

9.    Recognize you are NOT responsible for others’ behaviour or their happiness.

10.    Practice joyful acts of kindness. Reach out to others. Nurture social relationships.
