I’m currently working on several picture books with Mental Health OR environmental themes.
What Credentials do I have as a Picture Book writer?
I’m a primary trained teacher with a Diploma of Teaching with a wealth of twenty years experience with children and their literature. I taught gifted and talented classes and Currently present creative writing workshops in schools.
I have completed two six-month writing courses through the Queensland Writers Centre, the Year of the Edit and the Short Story Development series.
I have participated in several children’s Writing Workshops including three FULL days of workshops at the CYA Conference in Brisbane. I’m a member of Queensland SCWBI and an online critiquing children’s writers group plus a face-to-face one.
When did my LOVE of Picture books Begin?
My picture book journey began as an enthusiastic teacher reading picture books to my year one or two classes, capturing their attention with my animated voice and actions. When the book was finished, the kids called out, ‘Read it again!
*Super Sophie to the Rescue* delivers a unique, heart warming, child-centred picture book.
SUPER SOPHIE is based on my family’s personal experiences, living on our suburban bushland property.
My children’s writers online critique group critiqued SUPER SOPHIE TO THE RESCUE providing me with valuable feedback.
Sally Odgers, editor extraordinaire offered my picture book final critique, polish and review.
“The story works well, and would illustrate nicely.”
I was stoked! Thanks Sally for your positive assessment.
I’ll be revealing more updates and publishing NEWS very soon

Karen, I love picture books and have had a lifetime appreciation for beautifully written and illustrated books. As a student teacher before transferring to social work, I read to my Reception/Gr 1 students alot and loved the excitement that eminated from them. They have a special meaning…I can’t wait to read your picture books…:-)
Hugs Ani, you didn’t have to comment here. I was just having a little rant. I just want to publish ALL my books yesterday.
My BEST kids books aren’t listed here. I can hardly wait to show you. You’re so sweet.. Karen xx
